What is Power For A Purpose?
Power For A Purpose was created to aid and assist charities in raising additional donations and funds outside of their regular fundraising channels. Raising funds through the sale of a recurring commodity purchase provides charitable organizations a steady stream of operating cash flow necessary to complete their not-for-profit goals and objectives.
Can I support a charity that is not listed?
Affordable Energy is supporting these charities with their donation from profits, so all charities are approved by the Affordable Energy and Power For A Purpose's management team before posting on the Power For A Purpose Web site. All charities will be thoroughly evaluated as to ethics, mission, use of funds and its place within the corporate giving philosophy of Affordable Energy.
How much money goes to my organization?
The charity will receive a monthly donation of $0.003 per kilowatt hour of electricity usage. For example, if in the current month a customer uses 2,000 kilowatt hours of electricity, the charity will receive $6.00 e.g. (2,000 kWh X $0.003).
Do I get a tax break if I participate?
No, the donation is made by Affordable Energy; however, each donor that enrolls and selects a charity will be identified to the charity along with the amount of the donation. Each month the charity will receive a list of donors and amounts.
What charities does Power For A Purpose support?

How long does it take to get electricity turned on?
New service takes 3 - 5 busines days. Switching service takes 15 - 45 business days; and pririty service is available by calling 1-877-LIGHT-57. Don't forget to mention your charity's"Purpose No."

How can I be getting cheap rates and still have money donated to a charity?
It's simple. Affordable Power closely monitors the energy markets to ensure we rank as one of the most competitive providers of retail electricity. Even with an additional amount of profit to contribute to charity, we will continue to be one of the most competitively priced providers in the market

When will my selected charity receive the donations?
On the 15th of each month, Affordable Energy will calculate all payments received for the prior month for each Affordable Energy customer designating a respective charity. Each month every charity will receive a check donation along with a report outlining each customer's contribution toward the grand total for the charity.
How can I be assured that the selected charities are receiving the proper donations?
It is our intention to add a counter on our Web site for total donations to a charity. In the future a line item on your bill will show your contributions toward the grand total of the charity.
Does Power For A Purpose make a profit?
Yes it does. Power For A Purpose is a program under Affordable Energy, a for-profit reseller of energy in the Texas deregulated market. Affordable Energy has chosen to give back part of its profits and still provide an affordable electricity rate to its customers.

How do I know how much I've donated to date?
At the end of each calendar year, you will receive an annual statement summarizing your annual usage and the amounts donated to the charity on your behalf.
Can I cancel my donation?
Yes, you may cancel the donation at any time, however, your rate will not change as you are not being charged extra for the donation. The donation is coming from Affordable Energy profits only. While we welcome the extra profit, we would suggest you pick a different charity.
Can I switch my selected charity?
Yes, we allow our customers to change their charitable choice per quarter. The change will become effective with the next billing cycle.
Do you represent the charities you support?
No. Each charity is thoroughly evaluated as to its ethics, mission and its use of the funds
